Αfter you wake up, get dressed and we are ready to depart from our lovely Davlia. We are heading towards Arachova, a nearby village higher in the mountain slopes with a nice view over the beaches of Corinthian gulf and is only 20 minutes away. Even though the distance is short, you will see on your way lots of green fields and many wild animals. On your arrival to Arachova you will notice that there are many cafe and commercial shops for a quick stop. It worths to see the Byzantine holy temple of Saint George which is testified already from 1676. Also must see the "Korikio Antro" that abstain hardly 10 kms from the Arachova on the way to Parnassos and you can go by walking or with your car as the street reaches up to the cavern. Pafsanias when visited the cavern the 1st century b.c., reports that was one of the most beautiful caverns that ever saw. Continuing our small trip we will drive higher in the mountain in order to reach the snow centre passing through the location of "livadia";
where you can enjoy ski in the full-of-snow slopes of the mountain or just make a stop for eating some of the traditional food which many taverns and restaurants prepare. The road network so much around and across the mountain is in very good condition, while also the dirt roads that connect smaller mountainous villages and various settlements are general practicable and are offered for more adventurous routes with the suitable car, mountain bike or even trekking. The National Park of Parnassos founded in 1938 and counts 3.513 hectares of protected area in the limits of Prefectures Fokida and Viotia, between Arachova, Delphi and Eptalofo. Presents intense geomorphologic interest, because of the structure of subsoil and the presence of impressive caverns and rocky tops. Mt Parnassos includes subalpine pastures, bare rocks and impressive Greek fir (Abies cephalonica). The fauna includes animals well known in the hellenic space, as the fox, the wolf, the wild boar, the badger, the hare, species of rodents, birds of prey, woodpeckers and alpine birds. While outside from the dense forests exist Vultures, Eagles, Golden Eagles, Lammergeirs, Lesser Grey Shrikeands other smaller birds. The access to the national park is possible from the provincial streets that link Arachova with the around villages.
In a short distance from Davlia is found Chaironia a village of important archaeological interest known from the antiquity. Chaironia is homeland of Ploytarhos and it is found near in the field of battle where at 338 BC. Philippos of Macedonia overcame allied forces of other Greek cities-state. At the entrance to town stands the marble Lion of Chaironia height 5.5m, funerary symbol of courage and bravery to the fallen members of the Theban Sacred Band, who were killed fighting heroically in the battle of Chaironeia against Philip II and his son Alexander the Great. The sights you can visit at Chaironia are many: the "Lion of Chaironia", the Archaeological Museum, the ancient theatre, the Citadel of Chaironia, the Abbey Likouresi, the Tower Ragkavi', the Protomi of Ploytarhos and the Castle of Panopea. Few kilometres following you will reach the city of Orhomenos. Its history starts from the Neolithic era while the city was evolved in an important centre to the era of Coper the 3rd and 2nd millenium b.c. It is worth to visit the Byzantine church of the Dormition of the Virgin of the 9th century, the Mycenaean vaulted tomb known as treasure of Minias (13th b.c), the ancient theatre, end of 4th century, the ancient acropolis, easter is situated the ancient Mycenaean palace with very rich mosaics, the ancient fortification walls around the ancient city and the Virgin Mary of Skripous.
Afterwards we will be directed to Livadia, capital of prefecture Viotia which abstains hardly 27 kilometres from the Davlia. There are many commercial shops in the city centre of all kinds of merchandise, brands and at reasonable prices which can satisfy even the most demanding buyers. Dont forget to drink a coffee in "Kria", a place full of water falls, traditional bridges covered by lots of trees. There, are the sources of river Erkina, the ancient temple of Trofonio, the ruins of the catalan castle as well as interesting restored industrial buildings of 19th century. On your way back, you can choose to follow the road for Arachova and at the junction of distomo follow the signs for Davlia.
Αfter we cross Arahova we sink to Delphi where we will reach in roughly 35min. Undeniably the Delphi assemble the bigger archaeological interest in the prefecture of Boeotia. For the ancient Greeks it was the center (navel) of the Earth. The modern Delphi are built near in the archaeological space, where are found the ruins of the temple of Apollo and the oracle of Delphi. Here, Pithia the most famous oracle seer of antiquity was giving her oracles to the followers. From 6th until the 4th century the oracle experiences its bigger prosperity while the last oracle was given the 362 b.c. Each powerful city in the antiquity had its treasury at Delfoi. Also, in the archaeological space you will see traces of the Holy Road, the Kastalia Spring, the temple of the Proneas Athina, the ancient theatre and the Stage, where they was taken place "Pythia". Finally, do not omit to visit the Museum, where are accomodated important discoveries from the excavations. Moreover, the Delphi with the known institution of Amfiktionion gave the sign for friendship, fraternity and peaceful coexistence of populations, as fundamental objective of the Delfiki Idea.
Leaving Delphi and continuing to itea and afterwards to Desfina where we can seat in the beautiful square for a while, we will head driving down the mountain towards the sea side till we arrive at Antikira in the Corinthian gulf, where you can enjoy the clean blue sea and the many fish taverns nearby the sea. Very beautiful beach is that of Saint Isidoro, 1,5 km away. In this region had been built temples dedicated in Athina and the Neptune. From Antikira, Davlia is only 25 minutes away passing from Distomo so there is no rush to drive back fast and you can still enjoy the enchanting wild scenery.
ΓIn order to reach the monastery of "Osios Loukas" will cover in total 17 km always going through from Distomo. Here on 10 June 1944 the Germans killed civilians in reprisal of the action of rebels in the region. In the region of Distomo it was situated the ancient city of Amvryssos (or Amvrossos) who destroyed by the king of Macedonia, Philippos the B. In the stone building of the old municipal school is accomodated the Archaeological Collection of Distomo with discoveries from the ancient cities Amvryssos, Antikyra and Medeona. Continuing afterwards Distomo and passing by Stiri we reach in the monastery of "Osios Loukas". The monastery is one from the more important monuments of Byzantine art in Greece and belongs in the Greek monuments of UNESCO. Built from the Byzantine emperor Romanos II the 946 it maintains infrequent mosaics that represent the strict and abstract rythm of Mesobysantine of art and murals of the first half 11th century. In the interior of grounds they exist cells, belltower, crypt, the Bank and two temples that are linked. The temple of Virgin Mary and the temple of Osios Loukas where is the pile of Osios. Under the temple of Osios Loukas is found the crypt, dedicated in Saint Barbara and it is decorated with murals. The monastery is characterized by the wealth mosaic and precious marbles, by rare murals and mosaics as well as by paintings of priceless value. Returning from the monastery we will direct ourselves left to Kiriaki. Kiriaki, is found southly-eastern of Distomo and Stiri, in altitude of 860m. in western the slopes of mount Ellikonas. It constitutes one from the richer villages of Viotia in natural beauty and interesting view. Today it counts roughly 3.000 residents. In the current place of the settlement was placed the ancient city Flygonios, in which sumrise that belonging the ruins of the castle in westwards of the settlement. The beautiful square of Kiriaki is well offered for a small break in one of the nice cafeterias and very good taverns.
Αnother very beautiful route is the following: Starting point as always is Davlia, we will direct to the railway station in about 8Km. Afterwards passing the airlift of Davlia we will turn right to Lamia in order to cross few minutes later the Agia Paraskeuh village and in 4 km we will reach Kato Tithorea. From here the visitor can enjoy better from each other point the unique imposing presence and magnificence of the mountainous volume of Parnassos. From the central square of Kato Tithorea if we have time for a short visit starts also the street for Ano Tithorea which is 5Km away southernly and in an altitude of 430m at the foot of Parnassos. After Kato Tithorea we will continue to Amfikleia, the street is good enough but you must be careful. Leaving behind us the houses of the village we perceptibly follow the narrower street that climb litteraly over the mountain with possessed, continuous turns up to Polidrosso 500m of altitude and afterwards to Eptalofos up to 1000m.-1200m. the sense of looking around us is unique. Hospitable familial taverns offer local meats and other local dishes. The vegetation here is denser with tally firs. From here we will continue coast to Arahova 900m of altitude after we cross the beautiful mountainous plain. There are a lot of nice cafe bar but also a lot of traditional cafes where anyone can enjoy his coffee. Now leaving behind the cosmopolitan Arahova with direction to Livadia we pass from Zemeno 600m. of altitude and in about 3,5Km. we will reach the crossing in order to return back to Davlia.
As far as the entrance of the Castle you can go also by your car. However it is better if you walk passing under the Saint Mhnas chapel, advancing to the area, where you will meet the ruins of the watermills mantan(m)ia which were useful for the blow of the heavy woollen cloths. Duration hardly 15'. Following the street you might acquire a total picture of the whole area after you had an amazing view. Afterwards passing the entry of the castle you will walk in the beautiful pinewood up to the temple of Saints Theodoroi and enjoy the nature. The surrounding space is advisable for pik-nik and observation of the nature.
We will start from Davlia driving up to the camping space of Lapathia at 900m of altitude, which is in the heart of the fir forest. The visitor can admire the rich ecosystem of the region, with the infrequent flora and fauna. From there we will step up to the Monastery of Jerusalem and continuing in the light uphill path for roughly about one kilometre of length. After a while we will admire in the right hand builded in the rock the beautiful chapel of Virgin Mary Revealed and then if we keep following the same path we will reach in the panoramic locality of the Cross where exists a big metal cross. From there we can enjoy an amazing view of the valley.
Akrino Nero is a relatively low place in the mount Parnassos. The distance from the Abbey Jerusalem up to the Akrino Nero is roughly 2 hours walk, but the path is relatively easy. As soon as you will reach your meta you will be compensated from the splendid clearing and the slopes with the ice that never melts. After you get rested, you can follow an old path, that leads to Arahova, through Saint Nikolaos, the Tap Taxiarhi and the country chapel of Saint Ioannis. This way lasts other 2 hours. Otherwise from Akrino Nero the path uphills to the right, between areas of rocks and leads to the place Black Litharia. For this path you will need roughly 1 hour. From there you will continue uphill following a piece of valley with the caves and you will reach the place Tsares. This way is calculated in roughly 2 hours. From the Abbey Jerusalem until the Tsares you will need to walk about 5 hours. For those who they bear, the path it continues from Tsares up to Tithorea, through the church of Prophet Elia, after it passed from the chapel of Ai Yannis. For this route you will need 3.5 hours.
